DAVID DHAWAN
David Dhawan has directed over 42 movies in his whole career. Mostly known for his comedy movies, Dhawan earned himself nominations for the Filmfare Award best Director for his 1993 action thriller "Aankhen" And 1999 comedy "Biwi no. 1".
Over the years, Dhawan has delivered classics and has caught the hook to grab audience and get them indulged in his movies, he is one of the few directors that have also mastered the indian comedy format, he has also been the only director to make the most no.of buddy comedy movies in hindi cinema. Some of his renowned works are, "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan"(1998) , "Banarasi Babu" (1997), "Chal mere bhai", "Dulhan hum le jayenge", "Ek aur Ek gyarah", "Haseena maan jayegi", " Jodi no. 1", "Maine pyaar kyon kiya" and "Shola aur Shabnam".
With his comedic talent at such a high level, Dhawan worked with many stars from the industry like Kader Khan, Amitabh Bachhan, Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan, but none have come close to his chemistry with Govinda. Dhawan and Govinda did around 17 movies together. The pairing or shall we say "Jodi" was a match made in heaven. Dhawan was flawless with his storytelling and comedic direction and Govinda contributed with his charming energy and on point comedic timing.
Dhawan has always been a big name in the comedy genre, he has even tried to experiment in the recent time with movies like "Chasme badoor" but now has reverted back to his original formula and started to remake his old movies. With the era changing, people back then enjoyed a comedy movie where story was not the main focus rather it was the comedy, the slapstick humour or the comedy of errors that was present in the movies. People are now more inclined towards action movie and CGI heavy movies with gripping storylines. Now we don't think this is a good move make remakes of his old movies to get his audience back, as the remakes are more over the top than the original and are without the charm and energy the original actors bought.
All in all David Dhawan, even with over the top comedy and getting inspired from different movie industries to make movies, he has been and still is a director whose movies people enjoy watching. (Usually the originals)
Some recommendations for Dhawan's movies would be, Jodi no. 1, Biwi no. 1, Coolie no. 1(original not the remake) and Hero no. 1.
